The Ultimate Guide to the Butchery Mod in Minecraft
A complete walkthrough of every mechanic, tool, block, item, and processing method.
If you want a mod that turns mob harvesting into a full-on simulation—blood, carcasses, skins, grinders, rotisseries, sausages, and even decorative skeletons—The Butchery Mod is exactly that.
This guide covers every feature you need to know, with clear steps, tips, and examples.
1. Getting Started – Cleavers & Carcasses
Cleavers: The Core Tool
You must kill mobs using cleavers to obtain carcasses.
If you kill a mob with a sword or any other weapon: no carcass.
Cleaver types:
- Bone Cleaver – early game, basic mobs only
- Iron Cleaver – basic mobs
- Netherite Cleaver – lets you harvest boss mobs (Elder Guardian, Ender Dragon, etc.) + higher durability
Carcasses
After killing a mob with a cleaver, walk over the corpse to pick up the carcass.
This is the raw, unprocessed body that you then hang, bleed, and butcher.
2. Hanging Carcasses – Hooks, Ropes & Blood Grates
How to Hang a Carcass
Early game:
- Hanging Rope (3 uses, cheap)
Later:
- Chains + Chain Hooks
Right-click chain hooks onto Minecraft chain blocks for a permanent hanging setup.
Blood Grates
Place a blood grate under the carcass.
It:
- Catches all dripping blood
- Prevents bloody splatter everywhere
- Stores the blood for cross-mod compatibility (Hexerei, EvilCraft, Vampirism, Blood Magic, etc.)
Bleeding the Carcass
Right-click with your cleaver → the carcass begins draining.
It turns grey once fully bled.
3. Cross-Mod Blood Conversion (Butcher’s Papers)
Crafted with:
- 1x Paper
- 1x Any meat
Right-click a butcher’s paper on the blood grate to convert the stored blood into:
- Blood Magic blood
- Hexerei blood
- Vampirism blood
- EvilCraft blood
You can also right-click butcher’s papers on certain blocks to rotate them decoratively.
4. Butchering Basics – What You Get
Once fully drained, right-click again with your cleaver to butcher the body.
Typical drops include:
- Hearts
- Intestines
- Stomachs
- Bones
- Animal Fat
- Heads
- Pork belly, pork loin, etc.
- Hooves (convert to slimeballs using the pestle & mortar)
Different mobs produce different parts, and some require special steps (see next sections).
5. Pestle & Mortar – Slime, Bone Meal & More
Place the pestle & mortar, then right-click items into it:
Useful grinding examples:
- Hooves → Slimeballs
- Chicken Feet → Bone Meal
- Flowers → Crushed Flowers → Bottled Flowers → Frying Oil
- Wither Bones → Wither Bone Meal
6. Cleaning Up Blood – Sponges, Rags & Cauldrons
If you don’t use a blood grate, the floor becomes a crime scene.
Two options:
Sponges
- Craft or obtain a sponge
- Right-click it into water → Wet Sponge
- Clean the butcher table or the floor
- Sponge becomes Blood-Soaked Sponge
- Clean it in a cauldron of water
Rags
Work the same but have lower durability.
7. Processing Chickens – Table Butchery
Chickens have special steps:
- Hang the carcass → bleed it
- Shift-right-click to take it off
- Place it on the Butcher Table
- Use the tools the icons show:
- Shears → remove feathers
- Cleaver → behead
- Pliers → remove wishbone
- Wishbone can be broken for loot or used in brewing to create magic wishbones
- Continue cleaving to extract all parts
8. Processing Cows – Skinning & Leather Making
Steps
- Hang and bleed
- Use Skinning Knife to remove hide
- Skin drops as an item
- Finish butchering with the Cleaver
Turning Hides Into Leather
Place hide on a Skinning Rack, then:
- Wet it using a wet sponge
- Salt it
- Craft a Basin
- Fill with water
- Leave it outside in sunlight
- After half a Minecraft day → salt
- Apply salt to hide
- After ~45 seconds → Leather
Any animal skin works with this process.
9. Preserving Corpses – Turning Bodies Into Skeletons
If you want decorative skeletons:
- Brew Sulfuric Acid
- Sulfur (Y-64 to Y5) + water bottle in brewing stand
- Right-click a carcass repeatedly with sulfuric acid
- After a short time → it turns into a skeleton model
10. Special Mobs – Turtle, Frog & More
Turtles
- Bleed on hook
- Move to butcher table
- Use Hammer to break shell
- Use Cleaver to finish
- You get:
- Turtle shell fragments (craftable into turtle helmet)
- Turtle shell decorative item
Frogs
- Place carcass on metal tray
- Cleaver it apart directly
11. Meat Grinder & Sausage Maker
Basic Grinder
- Place the grinder
- Insert valid meats (mostly steaks)
- Right-click the handle → meat comes out
- Right-click with cleaver → collect minced meat
Sausage Attachment
- Right-click to install on the grinder’s front
- Right-click Pork Intestines onto it (the casing)
- Insert any pork cut
- Grind → sausages fill the casing
- Cleave to remove sausages
- Cook them
12. Rotisserie – Cook Whole Animals Automatically
- Place a campfire under the rotisserie
- Fully bleed a pig or cow
- Right-click onto the rotisserie
- It spins and slowly cooks completely
- When brown, right-click with cleaver to shave off pre-cooked meat
This is one of the best mass-meat methods.
13. Cleaning Basins With Lightning (Advanced)
To clean bloody water basins:
- Craft a Basin
- Create Brine Solution (water bucket + salt)
- Place brine in basin
- Insert a Lightning Rod
- Wait for a thunderstorm
- Lightning hits the rod → brine becomes Chlorine
- Bottle the chlorine
- Use it to clean bloody cauldrons
Optional but very immersive.
14. Decorative Items
The mod includes many aesthetic blocks:
- Butcher statues
- Rugs (goat, panda, etc.)
- Trophy head mounts
- Food display cases
- Freezers
- Barrels of cod/salmon/bones
- Jars for storing brains, organs, etc.
- Canopies & butcher shop signs
Perfect for creating full roleplay butcher shops.
15. Dragon & Boss Resources
Using the Netherite Cleaver, you can harvest boss mobs.
Ender Dragon

- Dragon Scales
- Spiked Dragon Bones
- Dragon Scale Ingots (better than Netherite)
Craft full Dragon Scale armor using:
- Netherite armor piece
- Dragon Scale Ingot
- Dragon-Smithing Template

16. Infected Blood & Zombie Conversions
Some mobs produce infected blood.
You can:
- Bottle it
- Brew splash infected blood
- Throw it at mobs to convert them into their zombie variants (sheep, cows, villagers, etc.)
Create infected-blood sources and farm zombie versions of most animals.
