The First Item: Engineer’s Manual

Crafted with a book + a lever, this manual explains every aspect of the mod. You won’t need it, but it’s there.

Core Tools

You’ll immediately craft two essentials:

  • Engineer’s Hammer – forms multiblocks, rotates machines, and turns ingots into plates.
  • Wire Cutters – cuts plates into wire for crafting and power systems.

Alloys & Pulverizing

Immersive Engineering includes its own alloying system. For example:

  • Gold + Silver grit = Electrum grit → Electrum ingots

Using the hammer, you can smash ores into grit early on, doubling outputs manually.

Treated Wood, Storage & Industrial Hemp

Treated Wood

A core crafting component across the mod.

You’ll need:

  1. A Coke Oven (crafted from Coke Bricks)
  2. Insert coal or coal blocks
  3. Wait for:
    • Coke Coke (fuel)
    • Creosote Oil (fluid byproduct)

Right-click the oven with a bucket to extract creosote, then combine:

Creosote Bucket + Wooden Planks → Treated Wood Planks

image

Coke Oven Multiblock

  • 3×3×3 of Coke Bricks
  • Right-click the center with the engineer's hammer

Wooden Storage Crates

These act as portable chests—their contents stay inside when broken.

Industrial Hemp

Grow these for:

  • Hemp fiber → String
  • Tough Fabric → Wire insulation
  • Windmill sails

Alloy Kiln: Basic Alloy Automation

If hammer-smashing ores feels slow, step up to the Alloy Kiln.

Alloy Kiln Multiblock

  • 1×2×1 of Alloy Bricks (place in a 2×2 pattern)
  • Right-click with hammer

Used for making:

  • Constantan (Nickel + Copper)
  • Electrum (Silver + Gold)
  • Insulating Glass
image

Steel Production: Blast Furnaces

Steel is central to mid- and late-game IE.

Crude Blast Furnace

  • Made using Blast Bricks
  • Simple 3×3×3 multiblock
  • Hammer the center

Put Iron Ingots in top, Coke Coke in bottom → Steel

Improved Blast Furnace

Faster, automatable version.

To upgrade:

  1. Make your first 27 steel in the crude furnace
  2. Turn steel into steel plates
  3. Combine plates with blast bricks → Reinforced Blast Bricks
  4. Rebuild the multiblock

Preheaters

Improve speed. Requires:

  • LV Wire Coils
  • Iron Sheetmetal
  • External Heater

Power them using LV connectors & wires.

The below example shows a blast furnace with pre-heaters placed with the power blocks on top. You attach your LV connectors & wires on top of these power blocks.

Conveyors, Routers & Storage Silos

Conveyors

Immersive Engineering’s conveyors are powerful:

  • Basic conveyors
  • Vertical conveyors
  • Sloped conveyors
  • Dropping conveyors
  • Extracting conveyors
  • Redstone-controlled conveyors
  • Dye-colored conveyors
  • Covered conveyors (mob-safe)

Use the hammer to rotate direction or create slopes.

Item Routers

image
image

A simple directional filtering system.

  • Insert into west side
  • Output on colored sides (north = red, east = yellow, etc.)
  • Filter by:
    • Item
    • NBT
    • Damage
    • Tags (e.g., all ores)

Item Silos & Fluid Tanks

image

Huge storage multiblocks:

  • Tanks: crafted from treated wood fences and sheetmetal
  • Silos: tall 6-block multiblock, hollow interior

Blueprints & Engineer's Workbench

image

The Engineer’s Workbench (with blueprint slot) handles complex crafting:

Blueprints include:

  • Components (plates, tubes, PCB backplanes, etc.)
  • Common Projectiles
  • Molds (for the Metal Press)
  • Arc Furnace Electrodes (found via loot/trading)

Place the blueprint on the left, insert ingredients, and craft via left-click.

Power in Immersive Engineering

Batteries: LV/MV/HV Accumulators

Right-click sides to toggle:

  • Blue = input
  • Orange = output

Transferring Power

image

Use:

  • Connectors (LV/MV/HV)
  • Wire Coils
  • Relays (allow multi-wire connections)

Touching HV wires will electrocute and kill you.

Use insulated wire for LV/MV (no HV insulation exists).

Generators

1. Water Wheel

image
  • Place water to spin wheel
  • Attach a Kinetic Dynamo (shown below).
  • Output LV power. (Attach a LV connector to the hole shown on the dynamo.
image

2. Windmill

image
  • Height-dependent power
  • Add Windmill Sails (made from Industrial Hemp → Tough Fabric)
  • Add a dynamo on the back, as shown here. Then attach connectors & wires to transmit power.

3. Thermoelectric Generator

image

Place hot block on one side, cold block on the opposite.

Best setup:

  • Blue Ice (cold)
  • Uranium Block (hot)

Useful Machines You Might Miss

External Heater

image

Powers furnaces without fuel. (Place next to a furnace as shown).

Garden Cloche

image

^^ Shows the UI for growing Wheat. With the output on the right.

image

One of the best farming machines in modded Minecraft.

  • Input water in back (Circled blue in the example).
  • Seed + Soil in bottom (In the UI)
  • Grows crops extremely fast
  • Outputs items automatically (You can use output pipes where I’ve circled red.
  • Powered through the top of the cloche.

Charging Station

image

Charges tools and IE items.

Core Multiblock Machines

Metal Press

image

Used with molds to make:

Molds are placed where you can see the chimney looking bit is.

  • Plates
  • Rods
  • Wire
  • Packing/unpacking (3×3 blocks)

Redstone togglable with the lever as shown.

Crusher

image
  • One of the fastest ore doubling machines in modded Minecraft
  • Crushes ores → 2× dust + chance secondary (e.g., Nickel from Iron Ore)

Sawmill
