The Ultimate Guide to ProjectE - Mastering EMC, Transmutation, and Power
Welcome to your ultimate guide to ProjectE, the modern remake of the legendary Minecraft mod Equivalent Exchange 2.
If you’ve ever dreamed of turning dirt into diamonds or harnessing the power of pure energy, this guide will walk you through every mechanic, from basic transmutation to advanced EMC generation.
🧪 What Is ProjectE?
ProjectE is a transmutation mod based on Equivalent Exchange 2. It introduces a powerful energy system called EMC (Energy-Matter Currency) — a numerical value assigned to every item.
Think of EMC as an exchange rate for materials:
- Dirt might be worth
1 EMC - Emeralds might be worth
10,000 EMC
If you have enough EMC stored, you can convert (or transmute) one material into another. That means 10,000 dirt could theoretically become one emerald!
Step 1: Crafting the Philosopher’s Stone
The Philosopher’s Stone is your first essential item in ProjectE. It’s crafted using redstone, glowstone, and diamond, and it acts as both a crafting tool and a transmutation device.
You can:
- Use it in crafting recipes
- Press C while holding it to open a portable crafting grid
- Begin your journey toward creating the next essential item: the Transmutation Table. (It’s used in the recipe.
🔮Step 2: The Transmutation Table — Your EMC Bank
The above example shows a Transmutation Table with lots of learned items, with a banked total of EMC to 3,462,445.
This is where the real magic happens.
- Insert an item (e.g., a jack-o’-lantern worth 153 EMC).
- The table absorbs it, adding that EMC to your storage & it “learns” the item.
- You can then withdraw any learned item worth up to your available EMC.
For example:
- Put in a jack-o’-lantern (153 EMC)
- Withdraw 153 dirt (1 EMC each)
- Or save up for an emerald (16,000 EMC)
The Transmutation Table also “learns” any new item you feed it — meaning once it’s in your system, you can create it forever (as long as you have EMC).
📜Step 3: The Portable Transmutation Tablet
After mastering the table, upgrade to the Transmutation Tablet — a portable version that lets you transmute anywhere.
To craft it, you’ll need Dark Matter Blocks, which are made by transmuting coal up through a series of fuels with your Philosophers Stone
- Coal → Alchemical Coal
- Alchemical Coal → Mobius Fuel
- Mobius Fuel → Aeternalis Fuel
- Aeternalis Fuel + Diamond Block → Dark Matter
You can continue upgrading to Red Matter, which has an EMC value of nearly half a million. Once your tablet “learns” these fuels, you can pull them out infinitely.
☀️ Step 4: Passive EMC Generation — Energy Collectors
Want free EMC from sunlight? Enter the Energy Collectors.
Tier | Max EMC/tick | Storage | Notes |
MK1 | 4 EMC/tick | 10,000 | Basic tier |
MK2 | 12 EMC/tick | Higher | Mid-tier |
MK3 | 40 EMC/tick | Massive | End-game |
Energy Collectors automatically convert lower fuels into higher ones, like charcoal → redstone → glowstone → alchemical coal → Mobius fuel → Aeternalis fuel in a loop as shown below. This uses the EMC collected by the sun. (so below is 148 collected so far.)
You can even lock them to a certain tier (e.g., stop at redstone) using the control slot on the right-hand side as shown below.
⚡ Part 6: Antimatter Relays and Klein Stars
Once your collectors are working, link them with Antimatter Relays (MK1–MK3).
These transfer EMC between generators and storage items.
To store that EMC, craft Klein Stars, the rechargeable “batteries” of ProjectE:
Star Type | EMC Capacity |
Klein Star Ein | Small |
Klein Star Drei | Medium |
Klein Star Omega | Massive |
Charge them in relays, then use the stored EMC on the go for tools and gadgets.
💰 Part 7: Energy Condensers — Duplicating Items
The Energy Condenser is your EMC factory.
- Craft an Alchemical Chest (just a VERY big chest) → upgrade to an Energy Condenser.
- Insert a fuel (e.g., Alchemical Coal).
- Place the item you want to duplicate (e.g., a diamond) in the top slot.
- The condenser will convert EMC from the fuel (or whatever you put into it into copies of the target item.
The Mark II version adds dedicated input and output slots, allowing full automation with relays and collectors. (The left is the burnable item, and the right is the duplicated item.
The example above shows us duplicating Diamonds, and using the EMC value of Emeralds as fuel.
🔥 Part 8: Advanced Tools & Furnaces
ProjectE adds powerful furnaces and explosives:
- Dark Matter & Red Matter Furnaces:
Super-fast smelting with advanced fuels.
- Nova Catalyst & Nova Cataclysm:
The mod’s version of TNT — the latter creates huge explosions.
←— This is the hole a Catalyst makes.
←— This is the hole a Cataclysm makes.
📿Part 9: Accessories, Rings & Amulets
ProjectE is filled with magical artifacts, many of which can be placed on Dark Matter Pedestals for passive effects.
Item | Effect | Works on Pedestal? |
Evertide Amulet | Infinite water, creates rain | ✅ |
Volcanite Amulet | Infinite lava, creates fire | ✅ |
Harvest Goddess Band | Grows nearby crops | ✅ |
Black Hole Band | Pulls in nearby items | ✅ |
Ignition Ring | Ignites mobs | ✅ |
Zero Ring | Freezes mobs | ✅ |
Watch of Flowing Time | Speeds up machines/time | ⚠️ Use carefully on servers… |
You can activate or deactivate pedestal effects with a right-click.
Keep in mind: these effects can be extremely powerful — and laggy on servers.
🗡️ Part 10: Tools, Weapons & Lenses
ProjectE’s Dark Matter and Red Matter tools and armor provide immense power:
- 80–90% damage reduction
- Knockback resistance
- Chargeable attacks using the V key
Notable weapons and gadgets include:
- Destruction Catalyst – Instantly mines areas of blocks.
- Archangel’s Smite – Fires homing arrows.
- Hyperkinetic & Catalytic Lenses – Charged explosives.
💫 Chapter 11: Utility Items & Storage
- Repair Talisman: Repairs nearby tools when placed on a pedestal.
- Divining Rods: Detect nearby EMC-rich blocks. (Each one does a bigger radius.) In my opinion these are faily useless.
- Alchemical Bags: Portable chests with massive storage.
- Induction Torch: Repels hostile mobs.
🪄 Part 12: Final Thoughts
And that’s it — everything you need to know to master ProjectE!
Once you understand EMC and transmutation, the mod opens up infinite possibilities: automated diamond production, endless resources, and reality-bending tools that make even the toughest modpacks feel manageable.
