🏕️ Chapter 1: Catching and Finding Chickens

Before you can build your empire of chickens, you’ll need to catch your first few.

Crafting the Chicken Stick

To get started, craft the Chicken Stick — your essential tool (and wrench) for the mod.

Recipe:

  • 🥚 1 Eggr
  • 🪶 1 Feather
  • 🪵 1 Stick

This tool lets you pick up and capture chickens as items.

Finding Chickens

Head out into the wilderness — each biome may host different chickens. For example:

  • In a Birch Forest, you might find a Birch Chicken.
image

Right-click the chicken with your Chicken Stick to collect it as an item. You’ll see details like:

  • Tier (1 for basic chickens)
  • Level (starts at 0)
  • XP
  • Spawn biome

To view this info easily, install the Jade Mod (a UI info display mod).

🌾 Chapter 2: Roosts, Souls & Seeds

Now that you’ve got your first chicken, it’s time to put it to work.

Building a Roost

Craft a Roost and place your chicken inside. However, you’ll notice nothing happens at first.

That’s because your chicken needs Chicken Seeds to start producing resources.

Making Chicken Seeds

Each chicken requires seeds that match or exceed its tier.

Tier 1 Chicken Seed Recipe:

  • A bunch of Wheat Seeds
  • 1 Chicken Soul (Tier 1)

So, how do you get a Chicken Soul?

The Soul Extractor

Craft a Soul Extractor.

When you place a chicken inside, it will consume that chicken and produce a Chicken Soul of the same tier.

For example:

Extracting a Tier 1 Birch Chicken gives you 1 Tier 1 Soul.

Each Tier 1 Soul can create 8 Tier 1 Seeds.er

Feed those seeds into your Roost — your chicken will start producing resources such as Wood Essence, which can be crafted into different wood types.

🧬 Chapter 3: Breeding Chickens

Once you have a few chickens, you’ll want to start breeding them to unlock higher-tier varieties and rare materials.

The Breeder

Craft a Breeder, which has two input slots for parent chickens and a seed slot below.

image

For example, to make a Glowstone Chicken, breed:

  • 🐔 Nether Quartz Chicken (found in the Nether Wastes)
  • 🐔 Yellow Chicken (crafted via Egg + Yellow Dye)

Note: Many colored chickens (like Yellow, Orange, or Light Gray) are created by throwing dyed eggs, just like normal Minecraft eggs.

Breeding Mechanics

Insert your parent chickens into the Breeder, add seeds (matching the required tier), and let the process begin.

Each breeding operation consumes one seed and creates a new chicken.

  • Tier 1 + Tier 1 = Tier 2 Chicken
  • (e.g., Nether Quartz + Yellow = Glowstone)

  • Tier 2 + Tier 2 = Tier 3 Chicken, and so on.

You can then extract Tier 2 Souls from your new Tier 2 chickens to make Tier 2 Seeds, allowing even higher-tier breeding and production.

Scaling Up

Here’s how you can rapidly multiply your chicken population:

  1. Extract one soul to get eight seeds.
  2. Use those seeds to breed more chickens.
  3. Extract new souls from your expanded flock.
  4. Repeat the cycle to exponentially grow your chicken army!

Before long, you’ll have enough chickens to automate nearly any resource in the game.

🏋️ Chapter 4: Training Your Chickens

Stronger chickens mean faster production. That’s where the Chicken Trainer comes in.

Leveling System

Place your chicken on the right slot and a seed on the left. Each seed provides XP based on its tier:

  • Tier 1 Seed → 50 XP
  • Tier 9 Seed → 5,000 XP

However, XP beyond what’s needed for the next level is wasted, so it’s most efficient to use lower-tier seeds unless you have extras.

Why Train Chickens?

A higher-level chicken produces significantly more output per seed:

  • Level 1 Chicken → 1 Glowstone Dust per seed
  • Level 128 Chicken → A full stack of Glowstone Dust per seed

That’s a massive boost in efficiency!

🔥 Chapter 5: Special Chickens & Advanced Uses

Elemental Chickens

Some chickens produce elemental resources:

  • Lava Chicken (Coal + Nether Quartz) → Lava Eggs → Lava Buckets
  • Water Chicken → Water Eggs → Water Buckets

Modded Resource Chickens

Depending on your mod pack, you can find or breed chickens for:

  • 🪙 Silver, Zinc, Bronze, Tungsten
  • 💎 Diamond, Nether Wart, Ender Pearl

Each adds unique production possibilities.

🧪 Chapter 6: Experimental Items & Storage

The Chicken Scanner

Currently, the Chicken Scanner has no recipe or function in some versions — it may be added in future updates.

The Soul Breeder (Future Feature)

This unfinished block is believed to clone chickens, preserving their stats (like Level 128).

If it’s implemented in your version, it could become a powerful late-game tool.

Ultimate Chicken Storage

For high-tech setups, use the Ultimate Chicken Storage block.

It integrates with Applied Energistics and Refined Storage, acting as a digital storage cell for your chickens and seeds.

(Note: It can’t be manually accessed — it’s designed purely for automated systems.)

🐣 Chapter 7: Wrapping Up — Becoming a Chicken Master

And that’s it! You now know everything you need to thrive in Roost Ultimate:

  • Catch and collect your chickens
  • Extract their souls
  • Breed new varieties
  • Train them for efficiency
  • Store them using automation systems

Each step brings you closer to the ultimate automated Minecraft resource farm — powered entirely by chickens.
