Twilight Forest: Naga Boss – Full Guide
1. Entering the Twilight Forest
To begin the Twilight Forest progression, you need to create the portal:
- Dig a 2×2 hole.
- Fill it completely with water.
- Surround the water with any flowers – daisies work, but literally any overworld flower is valid.
- Throw a diamond into the pool.
If it has worked, lightning will strike the portal and activate it.
Jump in.
On the other side, a return portal will already be waiting for you—no second diamond required.
2. First Steps: Making the Magic Map
The Twilight Forest is progression-gated, and the Magic Map is vital because it shows the locations of all bosses. You’ll see icons for the Naga, Lich, Hydra, etc., making navigation much easier.
Materials for a Magic Map
You must first craft a Magic Map Focus, which requires:
- Glowstone Dust
- Torchberries
- Raven Feather
Where to Find Each Item
Raven Feathers
- Look for obsidian totems/pillars scattered around the forest.
- Ravens always spawn around these structures.
- Kill them to get raven feathers.
Torchberries
- Found in cave systems underground.
- They glow faintly and hang from cave ceilings.
- Harvest them directly.
Glowstone Dust
- Bring some from the Nether OR find it via loot.
Once you have the ingredients:
Crafting Steps
- Craft Magic Map Focus using:
- 1 × Torchberry
- 1 × Raven Feather
- 1 × Glowstone Dust
- Surround the Magic Map Focus with 8 pieces of paper.
You now have a Blank Magic Map.
Just like a normal map, it fills in as you walk.
3. Finding the Naga Courtyard
The Naga is always your first boss. You must defeat it to unlock the next stage of progression.
As you explore:
- You may encounter hedge mazes, which have spawners and sometimes loot depending on your modpack.
- You’ll see tons of unique Twilight Forest animals and flora—deer, cicadas, massive hollow trees, ore mounds, etc.
Travel until your Magic Map shows the Naga Head icon.
Sometimes the nearest Naga can be over a thousand meters away, so be prepared for a decent journey.
Mods like Structure Compass might help, but this depends on your pack.
What the Naga Arena Looks Like
When you’re close, the top of your screen will show “Naga”, and you will find a huge rectangular stone courtyard, identical to the classic mobile game Snake.
This is the Naga’s arena.
4. Recommended Gear
Naga is not a high-damage boss. You’ll be fine with:
- Diamond or Netherite Gear (enchanted or unenchanted)
- A shield (very helpful for blocking its lunges)
- Optional potions (Strength, Regen, etc.)
- Modded equipment is even better, but not required
This is one of the easiest bosses in the entire mod.
5. Fighting the Naga
The Naga is a long serpent that constantly slithers around the courtyard and occasionally lunges at you.
Basic Strategy
- Target the head — it takes more consistent damage.
- You can break into the arena by digging the wall, but normally you just walk in through an opening.
- Swing your sword at the Naga each time it passes or charges.
How the Naga Takes Damage
The Naga’s body is made of multiple segments, and as you damage it:
- Segments break off
- The Naga becomes shorter
- The fight becomes easier
This creates a reverse-difficulty curve: the more you hurt it, the less dangerous it becomes.
Naga’s Attacks
- Charge / Lunge:
- Body Hit:
It quickly darts toward you. Block with a shield or sidestep.
If its body passes through you, it deals minor contact damage.
That’s essentially it. No magic attacks, no projectiles, no phases.
This is why it’s the introductory boss.
6. Naga Loot & Rewards
When killed, the Naga drops:
Naga Scales
Used to craft Naga Scale Armor, which is surprisingly strong early in the progression:
- Naga Scale Leggings – Protection III
- Naga Scale Tunic – Fire Protection III
You may need to kill multiple Nagas if your version doesn’t drop enough scales from one.
Naga Trophy
Placed on a trophy pedestal or used purely for bragging rights.
Note on Loot Variants
Depending on your modpack or version:
- Drops may appear directly from the Naga, OR
- They may spawn inside a chest in the center of the courtyard.
If nothing drops on death, check the chest.
7. After the Naga
Defeating the Naga unlocks progression to the Lich Tower, which is your next major objective.
